Issue #9
From Dubois County
Hi Reader
I put that image up today because I just remember wondering how to cover a fire like that one at Ackerman Oil in 2012.
You could see the smoke from the Huntingburg Airport.
Trying to stay out of the firefighters’ way, fumbling with my Motorola Razr phone in the bright light, I attempted to capture some photos, not knowing I had hit the B&W filter.
The fire was contained, and the environmental impact was minimized because of the highly trained professionals in the fire department and employees at the company.
We’ve come a long way since then and learned a lot. Thanks for following us.
In today’s issue, we’ve got a write-up of the Jasper Mayor’s State of the City address. The numbers are dense in the beginning, but it seems Jasper’s looking good budget-wise and a lot was accomplished in 2024.
Dubois County CARES is excited about bestselling author Jessica Lahey presenting a free seminar on youth substance use. Lahey has written two bestsellers and is seen as an expert on how to talk with kids about substance use.
Check out the story for some interesting myths getting busted and eye-opening stats on teen substance use in Dubois County.
Also, Southridge has become a mentor high school in a program that helps students earn college credits and even associate degrees while in high school, saving them money and getting them further along in their careers.
Check these stories out and more in today’s issue.
From Dubois County with love.
