A firefighter’s last ride
The Celestine Volunteer Fire Department honored Luke Gehlhausen’s 17 years of service with the department with full honors Saturday. Mario just for fun
Two-and-a-half-year-old Hudson Poole took his Mario costume for a spin on Buehler Park’s soccer field with his dad, while his mom and brother played pickleball nearby. Dad said the Halloween costume had arrived in the mail that day, and, of course, Hudson had to put it on–Photo by Matt Crane.

Strassenfest 2025 opening night
Strassenfest 2025 opened Thursday with a ceremony steeped in the German roots of the city and wrapped in unusually cool weather for the typically dog days of summer. Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide and Pfaffenweiler Mayor Lukas Mahler lit the ceremonial lantern together before offering brief remarks to begin the festival celebrating the two cities’ connections….
