Recently I was able to attend one of Wayne Schuetter’s neighborhood meetings. There was a varied audience of friends and neighbors in attendance which allowed for many different viewpoints and areas of concern. I must say that I was impressed with Wayne Schuetter and the way he tackled each issue brought to his attention. You…
It is an interesting mayoral race in Jasper. I enjoyed Danny Barrett’s letter of Oct. 20th as he made a priceless comment about a political radio ad: “ . . . another politician taking credit where credit is not due, just to get re-elected.” I couldn’t agree with him more. Jasper, as a city, is…
Anyone else a little torn on which mayoral candidate to vote for on November 3rd? I’m torn, with a slight identity crisis. I’m a democrat through and through. So much so, that I’m part of the Indiana Democrats Emerging Leaders Program. I met President Barack Obama last Friday while in Washington D.C. for the DNC…
Why is Tim Wehr a good idea? Tim lives in Huntingburg because he loves this small community that values education, family, safety and a modest cost of living. He was born and raised in Huntingburg and raised his own family here. Tim is an active citizen who volunteers his time as a member of the…
I am writing this letter to share why I believe the re-election of Mayor Terry Seitz is vital for the continued forward drive of our community. Born and raised in Jasper, I am part of a family that has built great business success in this community over the last 60 years. Growing up in this environment, I have been groomed to…
For the first time in many years, the citizens of the lovely town of Ferdinand have a choice for one of the seats on the town council. Shall we continue with the status quo which has made some decisions that have upset and angered many of us, or shall we move in a different direction…
From now until November 3rd, residents of Dubois County have a chance to vote for the future of their towns and cities. We all want the area to continue to grow and the area is highly populated with people age 55 and over. This means we need to be looking to bring the younger generations,…
As a resident of Huntingburg, I will be casting my vote to re-elect Mayor Denny Spinner. Mayor Spinner has pledged to run a positive campaign, but that is easier said than done. How many politicians have made that promise? He has kept that promise by running a campaign based on integrity and character. So where…
Jasper Democratic candidate Wayne Schuetter’s campaign rhetoric carefully avoids confronting the following: 1. The Biomass project failed because of factors that HDC members and countless educated citizens warned Jasper officials about from the beginning: market factors and failure of miscanthus as a crop in this area. City officials, especially Mr. Schuetter, could have pulled the…
If you follow the melodrama of the Evansville City Council, you should apply the lessons to be learned from there to the cities of Huntingburg and Jasper. City Councils control the budgets of cities! Mayors propose … councils dispose. The Evansville City Council has nine members, eight Democrats and one Republican. Democrat members have fought…
