WITZ radio tower drop

The tower that beamed WITZ AM/FM’s tunes from its very beginning was brought down in a 500-foot crunch Wednesday.

All the company’s employees had fled a safe distance — about a 1000 feet from the base of the antenna — and were spread out on fold-up chairs for the show.

Electronics Research, Inc. of Chandler brought the old radio tower down after an inspection revealed the tower was rusted too badly to be repainted as WITZ had planned on doing.

According to Station Manager Gene Kuntz, a new tower will be up in about three weeks.

The story originally stated Central Tower, Inc. brought the tower down. The company completing the work is  Electronics Research, Inc. of Chandler.

  1. The company that brought down the tower was Electronics Research, Inc. in Chandler, IN, not Central Tower.
