  1. It seems the number of cases are getting a little out of hand here. I think masks should be mandatory.

  2. OK Democrats, you’ve had your fun. Can we call it off now? We Republicans would like to get back to being able to cough into each other’s eyes and licking the urinal stalls at Walmart without fear of catching a hoax.

    1. Hahahahah! Good one!

There for a second, I almost thought you were being serious.

Science be damned! Urinal lickers unite!

  3. I’m not sure why Free Press didn’t pick up the story, but Shawn Werner from DCHD had some relevant comments in the Herald earlier today about the spike:

The numbers are actually pretty concerning when you look at a map of Covid-19 cases in Southern Indiana right now. Per capita, we are in the top 5 counties in this region in terms of positivity, with Clark, Floyd, Vanderburgh and Jackson Counties [and now Dubois]. Not a good trend. With increased testing, you should ideally see *fewer* cases if the virus is not spreading—not more.

Many states are now having to resort to mandatory mask wearing due to the significant spike in cases, and that’s very unfortunate. This drastic step wouldn’t be necessary if people would do the right thing. Wearing a face covering–along with being careful about social distance and hand washing–has worked in other countries, and it would work here if everybody did their part. As Werner pointed out, it should have nothing to do with your political or other views, and everything to do with taking the virus seriously and working together to protect one another.

  4. For what it’s worth, in case no one noticed (or wanted to admit/acknowledge the good within the bad), the county went nearly seven straight weeks – from the last residual of Farbest infections reported (43 on May 18) to this post-July 4th holiday increase – with very low, single-digit daily infections reported, mostly in the 0-3 range each day and in one period of 6 days in 9 with 0 (zero) reported. Also, nearly a full month passed without a death reported, from 6/19 to 7/15, v. 3 in 12 days in earlier June. Thanks be to God.
