Urban R. Giesler, 77, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at Brookside Village in Jasper.
Urban was born in Jasper, Indiana on January 7, 1938 to Albert “Jumbo” and Apollonia (Schmitt) Giesler. He married June Heck on June 20th, 1963 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, IN.
He was an Army veteran, serving from 1958 until 1961. He retired from German American Bank after 40 years of service. He was an active member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper and their Men’s Club, the American Legion Post #147, the Jasper Knights of Columbus, the Jasper Moose, the Dubois County Builders Association, and “JR’s Lunch Bunch”.
He was selected to the Brute Society in the Diocese of Evansville.
He enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing cards, and anything that involved the entire family spending time together.
He was known for his sense of humor, his love of practical jokes, and his award-winning Christmas light displays.
He is survived by his wife, June Giesler of Jasper; three daughters, Kim Purucker and husband Jim of Indianapolis, Pamela Bell of Jasper and Tammy Hurm and husband Chad of Jasper; two sons, Bart Giesler and wife Amy of New Palestine, Ind. and Andy Giesler and wife Amy of Westfield, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, Katie and Scott Purucker, Madysan, Nalon, and Corban Bell, Alexandria, Makalyn, Kadon, and Kendalyn Hurm, Henry and Charlie Giesler, Hayden and Cole Giesler; three sisters, Marie Denu and husband Anthony of Dubois, Frances Heeke Goodman and husband Jack of Celestine and Rita Egler and husband Gary of Jasper.
Preceding him in death was one sister, Irene Lueken and her husband Bob.
Funeral services for Urban R. Giesler will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper. The American Legion Post #147 will conduct military grave site rites.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 9:00 am until the 10 a.m. service time at Precious Blood Church on Saturday. The Precious Blood Parish will pray the rosary at 1:45 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Home.
In Lieu of floral arrangements, memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood Catholic Church or to the Dubois County Community Foundation – Urban and June Giesler Brookside Village Caring Nurses Continuing Education Fund.
