U.S. 231 will be down to a single lane north of Jasper beginning next Monday

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced lane restrictions on U.S. 231 near Jasper for a bridge deck overlay project.

Beginning on or around Monday, June 12, contractors will begin to restrict the southbound lane of U.S. 231 at a bridge about two miles south of the State Road 56 intersection spanning East Fork Mill Creek. During the restriction, crews will begin a project to repair, mill and overlay the surface of the bridge.

Lanes will be restricted to 13 feet, including the shoulders. Any loads wider than 13 feet should find an alternate route. The restrictions will be in place around the clock with traffic controlled by temporary signals. Lanes restrictions will switch to the northbound lane when crews are finished in the southbound lane.

Work is expected to last until late October, depending upon weather conditions. INDOT urges motorists to slow down and be alert in the work zone.

    1. Which means it might – just might – be done this year, same as the project south of Jasper.

  1. Just like the work being done on south US231 south of Jasper in the WITZ bottoms.

    1. But I’m not sure if this one has the somewhat easy detours like the one south of Jasper.

  2. How about an update? Understand “on or around Monday, June 12” but nothing has even shown up there as yet – no signage posted in advance (like happened with the one south of Jasper) and no signs or equipment visible on site or anywhere – nothing. Heck, some folks were already detouring around it!
