Two men jailed and one cited for leaving scene of accident

Huntingburg – Early Thursday morning Huntingburg police arrested two Bedford men involved in a fight and traffic accident in the IGA parking.

When officers arrived at the north-side grocery store at about 1:55 a.m., they met with 23-year-old Stephen T. Jenkins and 18-year-old Nelson B. Jenkins, both of Bedford. While officers were just making contact with the two men, Skylar L. Whipking, Huntingburg, arrived back at the scene pulled into the parking lot in his damaged vehicle.

Officers observed a gash on Whipkings’ temple and blood in his eyes.

Police determined that the three had been in an altercation in the parking lot that resulted in Whipkings’ injuries and a subsequent traffic accident.

According to officers, the two Bedford men had accosted Whipking over a family related issue causing the injuries officers observed on his face. Whipking then attempted to leave the parking lot in his 1993 Ford Ranger, however, when Whipking was leaving the parking lot, he ran into the rear of Nelson B. Jenkins’ parked 1995 Subaru Legacy station wagon .

Officers stated it appeared Whipking had returned to continue the altercation but their presence stopped the activity.

Both Jenkins were charged with Battery and booked into the Dubois County Security Center.

Whipking was cited to court for Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

In our original post we reported the vehicles were owned incorrectly. The article has been changed to show their correct ownership.
