Three arrested after police find over 10 grams of meth; handgun

Local authorities say they found evidence of drug trafficking when they arrested three people while serving a felony warrant at a Huntingburg residence Wednesday.

According to authorities, officers with Huntingburg Police Department and deputies with the Dubois County Sheriffs Department went to 805 E. 8th Street in Huntingburg to attempt to serve a felony warrant for unlawful possession of a syringe on Tanner Opel at about 10:15 a.m.

When they arrived, officers made contact with four people in the residence and conducted a search looking for Opel. While searching for Opel officers noticed indications of drug trafficking and drug use inside the residence.

Opel was ultimately located hiding in the shower area of a bathroom and a second search was conducted for narcotics. During the search, officers located a small amount of marijuana, a baggie containing about one gram of methamphetamine, several syringes and some very large pieces of other methamphetamine, police said.

Authorities reported the total amount of methamphetamine was over 10 grams.

A .45 caliber handgun was also located during the search.

gunIn addition to the Dubois County Superior Court warrant, Tanner W. Opel, 24, N. Chestnut Street, Huntingburg was charged with a Level 2 felony of dealing in methamphetamine over 10 grams while in possession of a firearm; a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine over 10 grams while in possession of a firearm; and a Class C misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia.

Larry Dillon Jr., 22, of E. 8th Street, Huntingburg, was charged with a Level 2 felony count of dealing in methamphetamine over 10 grams while in possession of a firearm; a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine over 10 grams while in possession of a firearm; and a Class C misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia.

Lindsey Bowman, 26, 805 E. 8th Street, Huntingburg, was charged with a Level 2 felony count of  dealing in methamphetamine over 10 grams while in possession of a firearm; a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine over 10 grams while in possession of a firearm; and a Class C misdemeanor count of possession of paraphernalia.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Lock ’em up and throw away the key – mandatory for a year if a first offense conviction, five years for second offense if within a year of release from first, and 20 years for third offense if within 5 years of release from second. We need to be tough and serious, and offenders need to know it – no beating the system or otherwise lenient sentence – just pay the price of consequences if they choose to ignore it.

  2. Quit treating drugs like a crime and start listening to all the doctors and psychologists and everyone else whose known, literally for hundreds of years that addiction is a mental health issue and jail doesn’t fix any situation or teach anyone anything.

    Abolish prisons and cops.
