Sylvia M. Schmitt, 83, Jasper

Sylvia M. Schmitt, 83 of Jasper, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla.

Sylvia was born in Indianapolis on August 15, 1935, to Loren and Lucille (Klueh) Cherry. She married Henry C. Schmitt Jr. on August 22, 1953 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1999.

She worked for local woodworking manufacturers and various retail stores in Jasper.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows — especially Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud and Jeopardy, playing cards, and spending time with her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren. She was also a great cook and enjoyed her family gatherings.

Surviving is one daughter, Kathy Cremaschi (Richard) of Bradenton, Fla.; seven sons, Steve Schmitt (Barb) of Jasper, Mark Schmitt of Jasper, Tom Schmitt of Bradenton, Fla., Doug Schmitt (Margaret) of Jasper, Anthony K. Schmitt (Cynthia) of Huntingburg, Jerry Schmitt and Larry Schmitt, both of Bradenton, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Cherry (Sue) Parrish of Kentucky.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were two brothers, Dennis Cherry, and Donald Cherry.

A Mass of Christian burial for Sylvia M. Schmitt will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. Mass time on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
