Suspect in Rural King theft arrested

The suspect in a two-week old theft case was arrested after allegedly attempting the same crime from the same location.
State police arrested Virgil Ross, 38, Evansville, Tuesday, October 11, when a Jasper Rural King employee recognized him as a suspect in a theft from the store that occurred on September 28. According to police, the employee saw him attempting to steal from the store again Tuesday.
Surveillance cameras captured the picture of the suspect in the act of stealing a Honda generator on September 28. Those images were shared and distributed across social media in the following days. State Police investigators remained hopeful to generate leads and information into the identity of the suspect.

On October 11, a Rural King employee believed he observed Ross attempting to steal an identical Honda generator. The employee recognized Ross from the surveillance picture and contacted the Jasper Police Department. Jasper officers detained Ross and contacted the state police so that investigators could continue the investigation.
Officers agreed that the photograph was that of Ross. He was placed into custody without incident and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on a Level 6 felony count of theft.

And it proves once again that the criminal mind isn’t too smart.
