Springs Valley teacher arrested on child pornography charge

Police have announced an additional charge against a Springs Valley school teacher who turned herself into law enforcement after being charged with possession of child pornography last week.

A warrant was issued for Kari Buchanan, 42, of West Baden Springs, on January 25, after Indiana State Police detective Shane Staggs presented evidence to the Orange County Superior Court. Buchanan allegedly had inappropriate communications with a juvenile Springs Valley student that occurred last December.

According to court documents, Buchanan allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with a former student and inappropriate conversations through social media with at least one current student at Springs Valley Schools where she is listed as teaching health and physical education teacher. 

Buchanan was booked into the Orange County Jail on a $2,005.00 cash/$20,000 property bond for a Level 6 felony count of possession of child pornography.

On Wednesday, January 30, Indiana State Police announced Buchanan had been charged with an additional Level 5 felony count of child solicitation.
