Souders running for at-large seat in Huntingburg

Keith “Curly” Souders is running on the Republican ticket for the at-large seat on the Huntingburg Common Council.

Souders

“Serving on the Board of Public Works, with Mayor Spinner, has given me an understanding of the needs that the various department heads require,” Souders said in a press release.”I look forward to using my work experience with United Minerals to help keep Huntingburg running efficiently and at the same time be cost-effective.”

Souders has lived and worked in Huntingburg his entire life. He graduated from Southridge in 1974 and the University of Evansville in 1978. He worked at United Minerals, Inc. from 1980 to 2017. He was the president of the Indiana Mining and Technical Society (IMTS) for more than 20 years.

At United Minerals, he was responsible for purchasing, equipment acquisitions, machine availability, and equipment budgeting.

“This cost-cutting experience will be an asset to Huntingburg if elected,” he said.

He has also served as president and board member with the Huntingburg Country Club. He is a member of the YMI.

“I have recently retired from the mining industry which will give me the time it takes to serve the City of Huntingburg’s common council with the dedication it deserves,” Souders said.

  1. Last time I knew, Huntingburg had only one at-large seat on the council – not two – but that could have changed. I believe Jasper has two at-large seats – hard to not mix up Jasper with Huntingburg as they’re so much alike(?). There are, however, two candidates seeking at least one at-large seat in Huntingburg – those being the incumbent, Tim Wehr and the challenger, Mr. Souders.

My understanding from the public information records is that Mr. Wehr has not been present for about a third of the council meetings during his term – and of course that would include any votes, leadership and other input that voters elected him for as a representative. One-third of meetings and city business missed (for some reason(s) is a lot, even for a smaller city entity. Me thinks and is almost certain that lifetime Huntingburg resident, Keith “Curly” Souders will be more active, involved and aware – certainly more present and accounted for – in representing the people much better and more often. Be sure to cast a separate vote for Curly if casting a party vote, or it won’t count (stupid new rule).
