Shoulder collapses at Maltersville Bridge causing road to buckle

Deputies responded to the Maltersville Bridge construction site to assist with traffic direction when a portion of the shoulder broke down and caused the road to buckle.

According to deputies, they were called to the construction site at the bridge at about 10:30 a.m. as the buckle in the roadway caused the lane to be unsafe. They closed the road for about half an hour after a semi-tractor almost collided with the concrete barrier.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department stayed on scene until Indiana Department of Transportation workers arrived on scene.

The road was already down to a single lane for scheduled work on the bridge by INDOT. Traffic is being controlled by a signal.

  1. I noticed there was already a sinkhole on the edge of the open lane this morning during the morning rush which must have been made by a heavy truck. Did no one else notice this until the road buckled?

  2. Like you, they probably did. I wonder if someone called it in… 😉
