Sharon McPike, 86, Jasper

Sharon McPike, 86, died peacefully near midnight, Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at Legacy Living, Jasper.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Martinsville, Indiana, Rev. Nathan Janssen officiating.

Visitation is at the church prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. Burial follows at Cresthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, Bedford, at 2:30 p.m. the same day. Rev. Nathan Rusert, Emanuel Lutheran Church, Tell City, will officiate.

Sharon Elaine (Herr) McPike was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, the oldest daughter of Warren C. and Naomi F. (Humbaugh) Herr. Her family moved from Detroit to Bedford where she graduated high school in 1953.

On June 6, 1953, she married David D. McPike at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford. After living briefly in San Diego and Honolulu, the couple returned to Bedford, where Sharon worked for the Keach and Grove Agency while David matriculated at Indiana University, Bloomington. They moved to Indianapolis in 1958 and lived there until 1974 when they moved to Martinsville where they resided until 2010. Sharon worked for a number of years at First National Bank of Martinsville, retiring as a supervising teller.

Sharon and David split time between their homes in Celestine and Loxley, Alabama from 2010 until 2018. In May 2020 they moved to Jasper.

Sharon was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Tell City. At age 12, she began playing organ at Calvary Lutheran, Bedford. She was a long-time member of Prince of Peace Lutheran, Martinsville. She was a regular organist there and occasionally at Ascension Lutheran, Daphne, Alabama.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years; children, Jeffrey McPike (Sharon Griffin) of Philo, Ill., Julie (David) Clark of Dubois and Randall (Kelly) McPike of Swayzee, Ind.; siblings, Robert (Phyllis) Herr and Sara Luallen, both of Bedford; sister-in-law, Shirley Herr of High Ridge, Missouri; brother-in-law, Donald (Jan) McPike of Bloomington, California; grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Clark of Birdseye, Nathan (Jasmine) Clark of Schnellville, Sara Clark of Evansville, Sara McPike and Ryan McPike, both of Urbana, Ill.; Nicholas (Alyssa) McPike of Greentown and Cassie McPike (fiancé, Evan Burleigh) of Swayzee; also three great-grandchildren, Sophia Clark, Ellowyn McPike and Marlaina McPike; four nieces; four nephews.

With angels and with archangels and with all the company of heaven, Sharon now lives among that great host, arrayed in white — all those who died with faith in Christ Jesus — including her parents (1983, 1996), her oldest son Thomas Dean (1959), brother-in-law George Luallen (2009), and youngest brother, Randall C. Herr (2013).
