Seven drug arrests made at Econo Lodge
Jasper — Six adults and one juvenile were arrested Friday evening on drug charges after authorities responded to a tip that a large amount of drugs was in a room at the Econo Lodge, 75 Indiana Street.
According to police, an employee at the hotel notified them of multiple people in a room who were being loud and disruptive, They were also smoking and had refused to leave upon her request. The employee had also observed multiple people coming and going from the room since it was rented.
Officers also received information that people had been seen leaving the room through the window. Some individuals had been wearing backpacks and acting suspicious in the area, according to police.
Indiana State Police had also received a tip that there may be a large quantity of drugs in the room and that drugs were being sold from there.
When officers with the Jasper Police Department and Dubois County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the hotel and entered the room, they observed seven individuals in the room and drugs in plain view. Two of the individuals briefly struggle with officers.
During the search of the room and individuals, officers found 21 grams of synthetic marijuana bagged in small quantities, $160 in cash, drug paraphernalia, a small amount of methamphetamine, scales, rolling papers, and numerous other miscellaneous drug-related items.
Cassandra G. Mattingly, 19, of N. Washington Street, Huntingburg; Tina K. Best, 27, of State Road 257, Velpen; Derek J. Wigodinski, 33, of 650S, St. Anthony; Jareth M. Weeks, 20, 0f State Road 257, Velpen; Rodrick Williams, 19, of Marion, Iowa; and Caleb A. Dubon Jr., 18, of S. Main Street Huntingburg were all charged with a Level 6 felony counts of possession of methamphetamine and criminal trespass as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and visiting a common nuisance.
Dubon was charged with an additional count of Class A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.
A juvenile was referred to the juvenile probation officer and placed in juvenile probation.
The adults were booked into the Dubois County Security Center.

Why do repeat offenders keep getting out of jail? I say lock them up and keep them there.
This was a victimless crime. Who is hurt by this? Making stuff illegal doesn’t stop it. We are already number 1 in the world for prisoners. What if they tried to outlaw alcohol? Wait they already did!
I bet they all get worklease, that’s $100 a head per week for for the Correctional facility + $20 a week for probation. And maybe $400 a head to the Dubois County Drug Court program.
