Scam mimicking Jasper Utilities strikes Jasper businesses
The City of Jasper Municipal Utilities released a statement saying business customers have been receiving phone calls stating a technician was en route to disconnect their utilities due to non-payment unless prompt payment was made.
This is a scam.
The caller had a foreign accent and was calling from an 800 number, according to city officials.
Jasper Municipal Utilities does not make phone calls prior to disconnection of services and will never ask for payment information over the phone. Notification of impending disconnection is made in writing only.
All City of Jasper Municipal Utilities field technicians wear uniforms designating they are a city employee and carry a city employee identification card. Please be aware of this situation and do not give any payment information out over the phone. If you have any questions about the balance on your utility account, please call (812) 482-9131.

These Bozo’s never give up. Caller ID is a wonderful thing, if you don’t recognize the phone number you can also let it go into your call answering system. These phony’s really should seek real employment.
