Sandra L. “Sandy” Baker

Sandra L. “Sandy” Baker, of Jasper, Indiana, went to join her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at home surrounded by her family after a two year battle with cancer.
Sandy’s faith in Jesus Christ, her love for God the Father, as well as her trust in the Holy Spirit were a quiet inspiration to her family. For those who knew and loved her, the knowledge that she has left us for a place where there is no sorrow, no pain and no suffering is reason for celebration.
She was born January 24, 1962 in Robinson, Illinois, the first born of Jamie and Brenda (Staley) Stephens.
She married Wesley Baker on July 28, 1984 at the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Clark County, Illinois.
Sandy graduated high school in Martinsville, Illinois, and attended Indiana State University where she was a member of the Alpha Phi and Psi Iota Xi Sororities. She was employed as a materials leader at Stens Corporation in Jasper for 26 years. First and foremost, Sandy considered herself a Christian, a wife, and a mother. She was a charter member of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper where she held several positions within the church and sang in the choir. Besides her church activities, Sandy enjoyed vacationing in Mexico, attending a myriad of her son’s musical performances, cooking and needlework. She was also a member and past president of the Business and Professional Women.
Sandy was preceded in death by: her parents; and grandparents, Ray and Goldie Staley, who were very special in her life.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley Baker of Jasper; one son, Wade Baker of Jasper; one sister and brother-in-law, Sheri and husband Jerry Parsley of Marshall, Ill.; one brother and sister-in-law, Randy and wife Missy Stephens of Annapolis, Ill.; mother-in-law, Janice Baker of Oblong, Ill.; sister-in-law, Glenda Baker of Gurnee, Ill.; one niece, three nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many beloved relatives and friends.
A service in celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper.
Interment of her cremains will follow at a later date at Olive Branch Cemetery in Clark County, Illinois. Reverend Larry VanCamp and Reverend Paul Alvey will officiate at the service.
Friends may call for visitation at the Shiloh United Methodist Church in Jasper from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday; and also prior to the service Saturday morning.
Psi Iota Xi Sorority will conduct a prayer service at 6:00 p.m., Friday.
All public visitation will be held at the church.
Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.
It was Sandy’s wish, that instead of flowers or gifts, expressions of sympathy take the form of a memorial contribution to Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.nassandson.com.

To my friend, brother & musical colleague Wade, Mr. Wesley and the entire family: I have known Wade for about as long as Mrs. Sandy had battled cancer. The truth is she WON. My condolences & prayers are with you all. It has been amazing to travel/perform with Wade, and to see him with so much strength all the time. Know that the Dayton, Ohio will hold you up during this time & thereafter. God Bless!!!
