S.R. 164 near Jasper to close for pipe replacement

The Indiana Department of Transportation announced State Road 164 will close beginning next Wednesday, August 17, while crews repair a damaged culvert east of Jasper.

Beginning on or around Wednesday, Aug. 17, State Road 164 will close east of Jasper and west of State Road 545 to replace a culvert pipe running perpendicular to the highway. The operation requires removal of pavement and excavation work. Because of those factors, the road will be completely closed to through traffic, however local residents will have access.

Depending upon weather conditions, the closure is expected to be less than a week. During the operation, the closure will be in place around the clock. The official detour uses S.R. 545, S.R. 56, U.S. 231 and S.R. 164.

INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.

  1. WHY DON’T YOU LIST THE LOCATION OF THE ROAD BEING CLOSED (164), USING THE NEAREST HOUSE NUMBER SO THE EMERGENCY PEOPLE KNOW WHERE TO GO IN CASE OF FIRE, ACCIDENT ETC. IF YOU DON’T WANT TO USE THOSE NUMBERS, WHY DO WE HAVE THEM.

    1. INDOT did not provide the exact information but what we have learned is that the work will be conducted about 2 miles west of S.R. 545.

  2. You listed the detour being 164 as part of the detour route. Did you mean 64 that goes to St. Marks and St Anthony?

    1. The information is exactly how INDOT sent it out and they have not responded to requests for clarification.

    2. The portion of 164 that US part of the official detour route is the portion that runs through downtown Jasper between Azura and Libby’s.

  3. I know I contacted INDOT about US231 needing repaved and they never got back to me
