Raphael “Rafe” Fleck, 66, Jasper, passed away at 3:33 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016, at his home in Jasper.
Raphael was born in Washington, Indiana on September 9, 1949 to Harold and Venita (Schuler) Fleck. He married Linda Jacobs on September 11, 1971, at Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper.
He was a graduate of Jasper High School Class of 1967. A U.S. Navy veteran who served two tours in Vietnam on the USS Theodore E. Chandler. Rafe retired from the Jasper City Power Plant where he worked for over 40 years and served as superintendent for several years. He delivered appliances for Sears for over 20 years.
He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper. He enjoyed his grandchildren, woodworking and his John Deere Tractors.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Fleck; daughters, Kim Fleck of Lamar and Angie Persohn and husband Bart of St. Anthony; son, Josh Fleck of Celestine; three grandchildren, Jacob, Will and Lea; sisters, Dianna Wilson and husband William of Loogootee, Carol Lanman of Huntingburg and Marilyn Rasche and husband George of Dubois; brothers, Michael Fleck and wife Debbie of Huntingburg and Joseph Fleck of Jasper.
Funeral services for Raphael Fleck will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, in Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper. V.F.W. Post # 673 in Jasper will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

I have learned that Rafe had spent several years in his battle with the big C. It seems that way too many of the Vietnam Veterans meet this end. At least his suffering is now at an end and Rafe can rest in peace. Thank you for your service to your country Rafe and May God grant you the eternal peace that you so richly deserve.
