Police seeking windmill thief

Deputies are asking for help identifying a man who stole a five-foot tall decorative windmill from a residence outside Huntingburg.

According to police, the man described as being in his 60s and heavyset, took the red windmill from the landscaping of a residence in 7800 block of State Road 64 about three and a half miles west of Huntingburg at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The man was driving a green truck with a camper shell. He was last seen leaving the residence going west on State Road 64.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department at 812-482-3522. All calls can remain anonymous.

Now folks, we shouldn’t be too quick to judge or fix a label on this poor man – he may have had a hard life, maybe he’s eaten too many twinkies (described as “heavyset”) or maybe watched too many ‘B’ movies (with windmills) or whatever and therefore his ability to recognize right from wrong is going in circles. He may need help and understanding and so we must be ready to give it to him.
