Planning continues on Jasper Elementary School
Concerns continue to center around the traffic at the intersection near the Jasper Middle School as the corporation held another public meeting Monday evening.
The final plans for handling traffic are still being considered but school officials have maintained it is a concern they are taking seriously.
During Monday’s meeting, about 20 community members heard updates on the planning progress that included some proposed traffic patterns.
Superintendent Dr. Tracy Lorey described some of the aspects of the new elementary school design as well.
The presentation below outlines the traffic patterns of the new school as well as changes at the middle school.

The school still hasn’t shown data describing how they came up with the size they are picking. They also haven’t addressed the class sizes they are projecting for the next 5-10 years. It would be better to be more open about this than design, which will cost more than it should because tha tis how building of school buildings work in Indiana.
The school just needs to be more open on class sizes based on trends the last 5-10 years, and the projections for the next 5-10 years.
Driving this much debt is a big deal. I rather see a smaller school designed to be added onto, than over build and have empty spaces in the future.
Since I couldn’t make the meeting due to life, this is my question to the school board. Many of Jasper don’t use your space, yet you get to spend our money anyway. Be wise with it.
I live right across from the Middle School. I could not make the meeting yesterday evening. My concern is the safety of the kids and also them trespassing onto taxpayers yards. They should stay on the west side of Portersville Rd. where the walking path is and then cross at the crosswalk. Why can’t this be a rule and enforced? But a lot of them cross to the east side of the street and walk through our yards. I am a taxpayer and I keep my property looking nice. I don’t need a path worn through my yard. I have seen several times when they walk out in front of cars or buses. My concern is that when the new school building is in operation, the younger kids will follow the older kids and someone is going to be hit by a car or bus. Please take my concern seriously or tragedy will happen.
There are so many residents in that area that will be going to work in the morning as well as two schools side by side.the traffic is going to be horriable near the schools and also become worse in othe rareas as residents are forced to reroute to jobs.
