‘Pioneer Song’ to Celebrate Lincoln Amphitheatre musicals this Thursday through Saturday

Pioneer Song: A Celebration of Lincoln Amphitheatre Musicals will focus on and feature the music, history, and storytelling of three Lincoln Amphitheatre musicals:  Young Abe LincolnA. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale, and Here I Grew Up via a limited three-night run this Thursday, June 25, through Saturday, June 27.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Central Time, and performances begin at 7 p.m. Central Time.  Guests are encouraged to arrive early for Thursday and Friday’s events for a pre-show performance in the mezzanine area featuring the Red Bank ReUnion Band.

“We invite our community and visitors alike to join us and experience the magic of live performance—and the venue’s musical past—in a whole new way,” said Marc Steczyk, Lincoln Amphitheatre’s director.  “These three special evenings will bring together powerful music and moving storytelling—highlighting the remarkable influence of Indiana’s early pioneers on Abraham Lincoln and the enduring legacy they helped shape for our nation.”

For Saturday, June 27’s finale, the public is invited to arrive early and attend a free American250 presentation by Spencer County’s Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) organization at 5:30 p.m. This special event will feature the debut of a newly commissioned piece by renowned choral composer Pepper Choplin as part of an hour-long program that includes a posting of the colors by the Knox County Sons of the American Revolution in period costume, the National Anthem, a recitation of Lincoln’s second inaugural address, and a 30-minute choral performance by the Celebration Singers with the Southwest Indiana Cantata Choir.

The evening will culminate with the premiere of Choplin’s “Thank You for the Blessings”, followed by the return of the Colors and a Benediction.  Those who attend this entire pre-show event from start to finish are welcome to stay for the final performance of “Pioneer Song: A Celebration of Lincoln Amphitheatre Musicals” at no charge.
