Spier Spencer Chapter, NSDAR to Host “A Salute to America250” at Lincoln Amphitheater
The Spier Spencer Chapter, Inc., of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) will host “A Salute to America250,” a patriotic program honoring the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. The free event is set for 5:30 p.m. Central on June 27 at the Lincoln Amphitheater. No tickets are required.
U.S. Rep. Mark Messmer (8th District) will deliver welcome and opening remarks. The Sons of the American Revolution, George Rogers Clark Chapter, will post and later retrieve the colors, with attendees invited to rise for the presentation and remain standing through the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem.
Joyce Bolton, a Spencer County native and former opera singer, will sing the National Anthem.
Whit McMahan of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, will deliver an Abraham Lincoln recitation. McMahan steps in as the event’s Lincoln presenter; Dean Dorrell will not be presenting as previously planned.
Gary Moeller, director of the Celebration Singers, will introduce a choral program featuring “A Tribute to the Armed Forces,” “My Country ‘Tis of Thee/A Prayer for Our Time,” “Our Song of Freedom,” “Thank You for the Blessings,” and “God Bless America.”
“Thank You for the Blessings” will receive its debut performance at the event. The song was especially commissioned to glorify and give thanks to Almighty God in remembrance of the freedom-seeking patriots who sacrificed blood and treasure to give birth to America 250 years ago, said the organizers.
The program will close with Abraham Lincoln’s “A Prayer for the Nation” as the benediction.
