Pedestrian killed in Dale hit-and-run
Indiana State Police and the Dale Police Department are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred at the intersection of S. Washington and W. Cherry streets in Dale, Thursday afternoon.
According to police, a green Blazer was southbound on S. Washington Street at about 2:42 p.m. when it struck an elderly man on a three-wheel, motorized mobility scooter and then left the scene. The victim, identified as Eugene Hufnagel, 82, Dale, died at the scene.
The vehicle involved in the incident was later located in Rockport by the Rockport Police Department. Amanda Huff was identified as the driver of the Blazer and was arrested and charged with a Level 5 felony count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Huff was booked into the Spencer County Law Enforcement Center.
Toxicology reports on the driver are pending.
The Dale Police Department and Indiana State Police are conducting the ongoing investigation.
Assisting in the initial response were the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department, Spencer County Emergency Medical Services, Santa Claus Police Department, Rockport Police Department and the Spencer County Coroner’s Office.
