One killed, four injured when driver loses control of SUV and trailer

Loogootee — A single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon north of Loogootee killed an Indianapolis woman and injured four others.
Around 3:20 p.m., Barry P. Matesick, 69, of Indianapolis, was traveling northbound on U.S. 231 near Abel Lane about one mile south of West Boggs Lake when his 2005 Chevrolet Suburban and trailer he was towing left the east side of the roadway. Matesick overcorrected the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line and leave the east side of the roadway.

The Chevrolet came to rest after suffering a head-on collision with a tree. Matesick was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville due to his injuries, which are unknown at this time.
Matesick’s front seat passenger, Loretta Matesick, 65, also of Indianapolis, suffered massive chest trauma from the impact and died as a result of her injuries.
Three children in the back seat were all transported to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for minor injuries.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Indiana Conservation Officers, Martin County Sheriff’s Department, and the Loogootee Fire Department.
U.S. 231 was closed for just over two hours while the crash was investigated.

I am praying for this family. God received a special woman today. If you had the chance to meet her you were truly blessed.
The sadness of looking one is so overwhelming… I did not know this family but my heart and many many prayers go out for this family…. may your loved one rest in peace…. prayers also for the injured ones in this terrible accident…
