Northeast Dubois teen badly injured in fall

Ashley Humbert, a Northeast Dubois High School Senior, fell from a two story apartment on Aug. 7 and is currently in intensive care at St. Mary’s in Evansville.
Ashley fell when she was carrying a plate of cookies to her mother’s downstairs business, Nails by Joyce. The exterior stairs to the second story apartment had collapsed earlier in the day and Ashley fell from the upstairs landing as she was coming out of the apartment.
Currently she is in intensive care at St. Mary’s in Evansville. According to a family friend, Ashley opened her eyes on Wednesday of this week, the first time she has been awake since the accident on Aug. 7. She is responsive to people speaking to her but she has not spoken since waking.
Her doctors think she will recover but the teen’s injuries are extensive. She has a badly broken collar bone, broken hand and foot, fractured bone in her neck, punctured lung, skull fracture and bruising on her brain. Doctors are finding more injuries on the teen as she continues to recover and the swelling recedes.
Ashley’s mother, Joyce Daniels, has operated her business in Hilham for several years but has had to remain closed since the accident to allow her to be with her daughter. Keith Humbert, Ashley’s father, has also been at the hospital. Due to the financial burden placed on the family, Daniels’ extensive list of customers and friends are raising funds to help with medical costs.
Communities in Dubois County have been joined by French Lick and West Baden Springs in conducting numerous fundraisers. This Sunday starting at 11 a.m., the Northeast Dubois Boys and Girls Soccer Teams and the Forest Park Girls Soccer Team are having a car wash in French Lick to raise money. The car wash had to be held in French Lick due to water restrictions still in place in Dubois.
The group is also planning a benefit dance on September 8 at the French Lick American Legion. It will feature the local band No Plan B. The dance starts at 8 p.m. and the public is invited.
Donations are also being accepted at Hoosier Hills Credit Union in French Lick and Jasper. Make checks payable to Joyce Daniels for Ashley Humbert.

Thank you for this wonderfull article on my daughter.
Joyce, I pray for your daughter's healing everyday. Also, that God will give your family the strength it needs to get through this.
Let me know if you guys need any donations. I would be happy to donate some gift certificates to be put up for auction. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
We were so terribly sorry to hears of Ashley's fall and injuries. Her father is our nephew and she was so sweet. The tragedy is that she was to be a Senior and now everything is up in the air. I
have siad masses and prayers for her. I sure hope she a full recovery or something close to it. She is so young and has her whole life ahead of her.
