Nancy Kay Abell (née Hanscom), 74
Nancy Kay Abell (née Hanscom), 74, has passed away after a sudden illness, surrounded by her family and peacefully in her sleep, at Jasper Memorial Hospital on May 21, 2017.
She was born March 28, 1943, in Indianapolis, Ind.
A warm and beautiful woman and a gentle spirit, Nancy radiated love to all who knew her. Nancy was a graduate of Lawrence Central High School, attended Ball State University, and was employed by Southern Hills Counseling Center prior to her retirement.
Nancy is survived by her husband Peter Abell; her mother Miriam Hanscom; her brother Rod (and Bette) Hanscom; her daughter Tanya Heflin; her son and daughter-in-law Troy and Kris Heflin; her stepdaughters Sarah Abell and Anne (and Sean) Hager; and her grandchildren Nick, Lauren, and Lydia Heflin, Adara Carr, and Alex Hager.
A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at Salem United Church of Christ in Huntingburg, where she was a member of the choir for 33 years. A time for greeting the family will begin at 10:00 am with a service at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 10th, 2017. Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I’m truly sorry to hear about the passing of Nancy. For just the short amount of time I have spent with her, and enjoying dinners at Pete and Nanc’ys home while visiting my son Sean and his family. Nancy has left a lasting impression on my heart, for she has a beautiful soul, and I know god has a special eternal place for her up there in heaven. My heart is heavy for the family and loved ones who lost her so quickly. God Bless
