Medical condition blamed in car-vs-home crash in Jasper

A home on the 1400 block of Main Street in Jasper was struck by a car after the driver blacked out.

A driver told police a medical condition caused her to lose control of her vehicle and run into a home on the 1400 block of Main Street in Jasper Tuesday at about 1:51 p.m.

According to police, Stafanie R. Boeglin, 25, of Lee Court, Ferdinand, was southbound on Newton Street when she turned left onto 15th Street and the car jumped the curb running off of the street. The 2008 Saturn she was driving went through an empty lot into the alley between Main and Newton streets where it clipped a carport before going through a yard and striking the house.

There were no injuries in the crash and Boeglin refused medical treatment for the medical condition.

The home had damage to the plumbing as well as its exterior. Boeglin’s car was considered a total loss.

Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services responded.

  1. So what happens in a case like this? Does a driver go on driving along their merry way without any investigation or mandatory medical exam and suspension of license until a determination is made to learn why they “blacked out” while driving a motor vehicle?
