MasterBrand temporarily shuts down Ferdinand operations
MasterBrand shut down operations in Ferdinand for five days after an employee was confirmed to have COVID-19.
A message sent to employees on Wednesday stated the employee hadn’t worked since March 31.
The message states the following. “A decision has been made to temporarily shut down Ferdinand operations effective this evening as a result of a confirmed case of COVID-19 with an employee who last worked March 31. For everyone’s safety, the plan will be to resume normal operations on Monday, April 13th.”
The factory will reopen on Monday.

Wow only 5 days! Two of those are a Saturday an Sunday. An Friday is good Friday. So they already had that day off as vacation. My last day was the 30th there. I took the 2 week leave they offered. Now that I know they have a confirmed case I won’t be going back until this has died down. It’s just now getting to the peak. It has to get worse before it gets better. Their not worried about their employees. They are only worried about their product. Only because they know they can get new people in asap if they lose people. Their putting all their employees at risk for when they go back Monday. They need to be shut down until this does down. Remember if you don’t feel safe at work an can apply for unemployment an be accepted because you don’t feel safe at your work place. That’s what I did. Here soon I’m gonna be getting more in unemployment then I did when I work there. When the 600 hits every Hoosiers unemployment. Me an my girlfriend an kids are safe at home. Plus I can still support my family as if I did when I was working at masterbrand. Remember to think about yourself an your family’s safety. Masterbrand employees it’s so much safer staying home while this dies down. Masterbrand at the beginning of this kept finding every loop hole to stay running operations. Now they have a confirmed case an are really only giving you one extra day off for the positive case at masterbrand. So I hope you all do the right thing. File for unemployment an stay safe at home!! This is very important we all look out for each other an that’s what I’m doing right now.
Well said about masterbrand. Totally agree
Most people are not willing to take the leap of faith like you. They fear their employers because the employers don’t play by the laws that protect the employee. They have skirted around the law every chance they can get and exert fear of job loss and reprisal against their employees. Honestly these factories don’t care about their employees. They care about $$$. I am out of the workforce now. I have worked in the factories and I know what it’s about. I wish more people would take your advice but very few will.
Well said. It isn’t the product they are worried about – it the all mighty dollar.
Well, have agreed and said so about ALL non-essential operations – not as defined by gov but by common-sense – and while this closure is something/better than nothing, it’s not much so. Plus it’s not even a minimum closure time, which would be 14 days from last factory work day – Wednesday – as anyone working on that day may have been infected from employee who worked on March 31 but not yet symptomatic. Closure should be at least through April 22 – 14 days from Wednesday, April 8, to be safe/sure, in order to cover for any other employee(s) who may have become infected on April 8 from any employee(s) infected on/shortly before 3/31. People don’t think – don’t understand – and/or just don’t care.
How are they getting by with a 5 day closure? Anyone can show symptoms 2 – 14 day’s after being exposed.
Masterbrand should be closed for 2 weeks and the employees quarantined at home.
It is time for the governor to step up to the plate and stop this bull crap!!!
This is absolutely ridiculous on masterbrand’s part.Close your factories for 14 days before other people get infected or infect a family member. They have employees from all over the tri-state area, many of these counties have a high number of cases and are growing everyday. So instead of going in and spraying Lysol, because we all know that’s what’s going to happen, give your employees 14 days off with pay. Otherwise it looks like you are setting your self up for an OSHA violation. An essential business should give employees masks as well. Those are supposedly on their way. Excuse me while I call bs!! People are in fear for their lives and management is sleeping on a feathery light pillow!!
If a person is volunteering to take the two weeks off, how can they file for unemployment? People were told that if they take the two weeks they cannot get unemployment because it is not lack of work. They are choosing not to work. So just wondering how all that works?
