Marie S. Mullen, 90, St. Anthony

Marie S. Mullen, 90, of St. Anthony, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Monday, December 24, 2018, at Scenic Hills Health Care, Ferdinand.

She was born at St. Anthony on May 2, 1928, to Theodore and Laura (Striegel) Bieker. She married Hilbert E. Mullen Sr. on April 24, 1948.  He preceded her in death on March 17, 2003.

Marie was a homemaker and member of Divine Mercy Parish- St. Anthony Church and had worked for Hoosier Desk Company in Jasper. Also, the St. Anthony American Legion Auxiliary.

An important point in her life was when she survived an accident involving a car and a train on August 24, 1930, that took the lives of six members of her family at St. Marks.

She is survivied by five daughters, Laura Reckelhoff (Paul) of St. Anthony, Rita Fields of Kyana, Paula Sabelhaus (Victor) of Carroll, Ohio, Valerie Schoppenhorst (Steven) of Huntingburg, and Cecilia Olinger of Charlestown, Ind.; three sons, Hilbert Mullen Jr. (Janet) of Ferdinand, John E. Mullen (Lucy) of Kyana and Lee Joe Mullen,(Sherry) of Kyana; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lauretta Prechtel of Santa Claus.

Preceding her in death besides her parents is her husband, Hilbert E. Mullen; one grandson, Jared Olinger; three sisters, Leola and Bernice Bieker, who died in the car-train accident; and Ruthie Klem and one brother Theodore Bieker, II.

Funeral services for Marie Mullen will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018, at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Anthony Church with burial to follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at St. Anthony Church, St. Anthony, Indiana on Friday.
