Man accused of raping a minor multiple times over three years caught in Spokane

A man wanted for allegedly raping a 17-year-old in Huntingburg was arrested in the State of Washington today and will be extradited back to the area to face charges.

Roger Salinas, also known as Jose Ramon Aponte-Rolon, 43, of 409 E. 8th Street, Huntingburg, is facing 17 charges including seven counts of rape of a minor, two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, four counts of criminal confinement, one count of kidnapping, one count of battery and one count of auto theft.

On June 6, the Huntingburg Police Department, Huntingburg Detective Sgt. Christian Gogel and the Dubois County Department of Child and Family Services launched an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and rape of a minor. According to police, the incidents occurred from November of 2013 to June of 2016. Child Services initiated the investigation.

According to police, they determined the Salinas had fled the area shortly before the incidents were reported.

Gogel forwarded his findings from the investigation to the Dubois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and applied for a warrant through the Dubois County Circuit Courts.

After receiving the warrants for Salinas’ arrest, Gogel narrowed down the location of Salinas to a couple states. He worked with Dubois County deputy John Anderson and the U.S. Department of Justice to ensure Salinas was located.

On Tuesday at about 1:30 p.m. the Department of Justice contacted Gogel and advised him that Roger Salinas was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal Service in Spokane, Wash.

Currently he is being held in Spokane awaiting extradition.

Salinas faces the following charges:
