LTTE: Leaders should reassert State’s rights over federal government
In my life time I have never seen the country so divided, however I have never seen our state so united. Hoosiers from all political parties, religious groups and single issue groups are awake to the erosion of freedom, the expansion of federal power and the complete destruction of our constitution. With representatives of government breaking and remaking the rules of the houses to force an agenda and passing bills in the dark of night that have not been read or even completed, the people live in fear of their government, the very definition of tyranny.
For years the federal government has used the commerce clause to chain our states to Federal power, over reaching into the rights reserved for the states and its people.
Obamacare is their new commerce clause. The federal government is using it to reach into every aspect of your lives through the guise of “health care”. They will erode your rights through “mental health” and new laws that punish you for making “unhealthy choices”, that they will define. They will burden our businesses with red tape and government requirements, and turn your doctor into their reporting agent.
President Obama just issued 23 directives. Out of those, nine were directly connected to healthcare and your second amendment rights.
This year Indiana must take back the power stolen by the federal government.
In 2009 the Senate passed SR 42 reasserting state rights under the 10th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
In 2012 the Senate passed SCR 10 assuring the people of Indiana the right to a choice of health care.
It’s time they honor their Oath of Office and stand behind the bills they passed.
SB 230 Applicability of federal law, deserves to be released from the committee.
The difference between a good leader and a great leader is where they draw the “safe” line. Only a person of true courage is a great leader, willing to stand up first and put their foot over that line for what is right. They do not say it cannot be done, they say how can we do it.

State’s rights has been the favorite slogan to be used to support intolerance and early on it was slavery. There are ways to have a civil society without the name calling and division. It’s time to get started.
The
previous abuse of invoking states rights in no way discredits the
value and appropriateness of States Rights as a concept within a
system of governance. The founders, and present day champions of
liberty take the idea of a Republic seriously as a means of
preserving and bolstering freedom in America.
Since it seems to have alluded the writer, we do have a Bill of
Rights. It includes the 10th Amendment which empowers the
states to find their ways in public policy not assigned to the
central government. Senate Bill 230 recognizes Indiana’s right to
legislate in areas of public policy in which they have jurisdiction
and nullify federal laws that step beyond the bounds of the U. S.
Constitution.
