Local group plans event to honor victims, promote common sense gun laws
One-DC will honor victims of gun violence and promote support for common sense gun laws by placing flags at 1435 St. Charles Street in Jasper this Sunday, February 25th at 2 p.m.
The public is invited to attend.
Participants will be placing 695 orange flags representing lives lost in mass shootings since Columbine (1999). Each flag represents one life and will have a victim’s name written on the flag. They will be placing these orange flags in a heart shape. (Data gathered from Washington Post and victim’s names verified. Definition of mass shooting used: 4 or more killed. This number does not include: gang or domestic violence shootings.)
They will also be placing white flags to represent all other gun deaths in the United States since Sandy Hook (2014). In all, 2400 white flags will be placed. Each white flag represents 25 gun deaths to total nearly 60,000 gun deaths since 2014.
(Data was gathered from www.gunviolencearchive.org)
In addition to flag placement, the group will also be collecting signatures to send to Rep. Buchson, Sen. Young and Sen. Donnelly asking them to support common sense gun laws that include background checks, keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, supporting gun safety technology as well as laws that require safe storage of firearms to prevent accidental child gun deaths.

The only common sense needed in these mass shootings, would be to arm the responsible teachers, workers, etc. and do away with “Gun Free Zones”. In reality, they have become “free slaughtering zones”.
The notoriety these mental defectives get after one of these incidents just encourages the next weirdo to do the same. And maybe, just maybe, take some action on them beforehand. Almost all of them have said or done something that people around them ignored; sometimes for years.
I would have to agree with Michael on this one. Logically kids like this are going to find ways of getting guns. I agree with the need for some laws reagarding background checks, but would advise caution in legislating too much as that could be a slippery slope leading to disarming of citizens. Anybody who knows a little history knows this tips the scales of freedom in the wrong direction. Train and arm the teachers, and let’s start having conversations about what is leading kids to even think about doing something like this. These kids are so mentally and spiritually messed up that if they didn’t have a gun, they would use something else to be destructive (e.g., machete, knife, etc.)
Indeed, this country is so morally and spiritually corrupted that it’s a wonder there are any “normal” people left. To be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society is NOT a sign of mental health.
Good point. Have you ever noticed that there are no mass shootings at police stations, military bases and gun shows?? These vermin only kill people at places where everyone is unarmed (by law)
