Letter: Who will police the Mid-States Corridor?
Who will police the proposed Mid-States Corridor, after you build that monster? Who will pay for those extra expenses? Can small towns afford more officers? What about emergency services? More ambulances, more fire department personnel? Bigger emergency rooms? Fortunately, they’re building a bigger security center in Jasper. But will it be big enough? Where’s the study on all of those extra costs?
It’s bad enough taxpayers are paying for a road they didn’t want or vote for. Why do the towns have to break their budgets for patrolling new roads too?
Think hard before you create an even worse problem.
Toni Eichmiller, Huntingburg

To your questions: The police…or more aptly the”monster” police…from the state, primarily, but others as needed/warranted, to assist, etc. To the extent there are any, we all will, as we all do now. Maybe, if/when more officers are needed…but they may not be, at least not just for the new road. What about them…? Likely not. Definitely not. Big enough for what…? Gosh, don’t know…didn’t know another study was needed…at least until “all those extra costs” are known…then they can study them. Too much “study”…study for study’s sake…as it is.
They don’t/won’t.
Than what…?
Nut-shell opinion/summary: Poppycock…Chicken-Little, over-the-top, knee-jerk poppycock
Don’t forget the costs associated with clearing the road during winter.
I never knew there were so many people terrified of change.
I think the Indiana State Police do a pretty good job on I 69 and new 231 south of Dale. If you doubt that try speeding a few days a week.
Guess standards for letters to Editor are somewhat low?
