Letter to the Editor: Voters shouldn’t vote party, vote values

As I write this, we are nine short weeks from what appears to be a crucial election for our nation. Many things have happened over the last few years that should cause everyone a great deal of concern.

We have seen our nation go so deeply into debt with so much infighting that our credit rating has been downgraded, for the first time in our history. We have seen a health care bill passed with contents unknown and not understood until after it was law. Hidden within the pages of the health care bill are provisions that go against the religious freedoms of many, freedoms we should be guarding at all costs. We have seen many things occur that go against the Constitution, our basic law of the land. An attempt has been made to limit our rights to bear arms. The current state of the economy is abysmal! The rights of the many are being trampled by laws that are passed for the few. Rules and regulations are stifling job creation. And these things are only the tip of the iceberg.

The solutions required to solve our nation’s problems will not be easy ones to implement. They will likely impact nearly all of us. But if we want to continue to be “the land of the brave and the home of the free,” things must be done and they must be done soon.

I want to urge everyone to register to vote if you have not yet done so, with your current residence. Don’t vote a party ticket, vote for the person running. Look into the issues before our country, ask questions, research the candidates, and determine which of them most closely aligns with YOUR values. Then, head to the polls and vote your values!
