Letter to the Editor: Job fair just more campaigning
This week, Congressman Larry Bucshon is hosting a job fair in Dubois County. I am here to say that this is not only the wrong place to hold a job fair, but that it shows just how out of touch the congressman is with the people of Indiana’s 8th District.
Dubois County has been fortunate with an unemployment percentage of 3.8%, the lowest of any of Indiana’s 92 counties. Meanwhile, four other counties in this district—Vigo, Vermillion, Sullivan, and Owen—all have unemployment rates above 7 percent, well above the state average of 5.7%.
Instead of showing he truly cares for Hoosiers in the 8th District who are without work, this “job fair” should be seen as what it truly is: a campaign event in his bid for re-election.
Congressman Bucshon would like the opportunity to tout this event as an example of his representing us, when in reality it is the work ethic of the people in Dubois County that has made us successful. Employers and employees alike have worked hard to keep jobs in Dubois County; Mr. Buchson had nothing to do with this.
While in Washington he consistently votes against our interests and votes for the interest of big businesses that contribute to his campaign.
Speaking of these big businesses, this “job fair” serves another important role for the congressman. He is not hoping to bring new industries to Dubois County. He is hoping to bring new workers into the area. Republicans push a free market economy, so why is he messing with our free market economy? If employers need employees, they will raise wages and employees will come for those higher paying jobs.
Mr. Bucshon wants to interrupt this system by bringing in employees that will tip the balance back to the employers so they don’t have to raise wages.
If Congressman Bucshon truly wanted to help struggling families in our District, why isn’t he holding a job fair in one of the four counties with high unemployment rates?
We deserve better. We deserve someone who will represent us. This is why I fully support a man I believe in, Tom Spangler, in his bid for Congress this November.

Well said and In am sure Congressman Bucshon will not support raising the minimum wage either or support equal pay for women workers. He will do whatever as his party bosses dictate.
Ironically he presents himself as a physician but his stance regarding pollution and the Clean Carbon plan is completely at odds with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Public Health Association official resolutions and statements. As a physician, he will be hard pressed to find medical studies to back his position, so he should say he is an energy lobbyist, because his position is akin to telling people to smoke cigarettes so that he can clean their arteries out. He criticizes the American Lung Association and speaks for “science and accuracy” yet I’m not sure that he has any revelation greater than the >300000 physicians that he above groups represent. Just more campaign donations. He carefully criticizes the ALA’s “conflicts of interests” but provides NO medical justification for Indiana’s energy policy, only an incomplete economic one based upon his conflicts of interest that actually fails to take into account health fallout.
You Tell It Norma !!! We are fighting against the Largest Lobbyist’s and Deep Political Pockets! I have to believe that people will see this and see what a honorable man Tom is, and see that he is going to be a voice for the People in Washington.
Bucshon preaents himself as a physician, not a politician. What a joke. He was one of the established republicans that voted to do away with the independent congressional ethics office so there would be no independent oversight of his graph, corruption and pay for play schemes.
