Letter: Statement from Seitz on recount decision
I am thoroughly honored and delighted to be re-elected Mayor of Jasper. I respect Special Judge, the Hon. Dean A. Sobecki, and all members of the recount commission for the job they performed in accordance to Indiana law. Since November 3, I’ve learned a great deal about election law and a little about Indiana history, including the fact that a tie election is very rare, especially when nearly 4,000 votes were cast.
I want to thank my wife, Deena Lewis, and my daughters, Kristen Ruhe and Lori Werner as well as their families for being with me every step of the way. Thank you to our legal team of David Brooks and Samantha DeWester and those citizens who agreed to play a role when we asked: Merrill Osterman, Melissa Osterman, Stan Jochum and John Snyder. I also wish to commend the professionalism of Dubois County Clerk, Bridgette Jarboe, her staff, and our County Election Board. Finally, thanks to those who provided financial and spiritual support.
I extend my best to Mr. Schuetter and expect him to continue to serve as my appointee to the Jasper Utility Service Board. The one common thread in all that has happened is that your vote matters. Please vote in 2016 and beyond. One vote can make a difference.
In closing, I find the words of the past are often applicable to current circumstances. I have a quote for today about the events which have occurred since Election Day. The author is unknown:
“I can choose to let them define me, confine me, refine me and outshine me – or I can choose to leave them behind me.”
I am choosing the latter and ask the people of Jasper to join me in building upon the framework of success we’ve established the last four years, the actions already underway and new opportunities ahead.

Mayor Terry Seitz, I am excited for another four years of your leadership and your vision for our community! Alex and I are so happy to be home and raising our family in Jasper! We look forward to your continuation as mayor. Congrats!
It is sad to see/read how mean spirited people can be….Shame on you….you can disagree with people but have respect!
Please point out the mean spirited part of this discussion?
Linda…I am so glad that you had actual interaction with Seitz’s lies and his going off on people. I sat with several city officials, who kept going on about the craziness of Seitz’s comments about city officials. One city council member did retire, but the Seitz’s way of doing things now, had a lot to do with his decision to retire as a city councilman. I was actually shown a pen that was ordered by the mayor himself, without asking city council members about the decision. Also, the same went for the Mayor’s choice by himself, to change the Jasper logo! No wonder some city council members think, “Why have a city council?”
I’m unfamiliar with these two issues, but not about purchasing and protocol in the public sector. A “pen” is petty – department heads have purchasing power within prescribed limits and a pen would seem to easily fall within such without council approval. Is this (objection) for real – a “pen”? However, on the logo, if true as you state, not so petty – goes to the entire image of the city and regardless of cost within limits without approval, etc, the council absolutely needs to be involved in this sort of decision. Maybe there’s more to this than meets the eye, always two sides to every story, etc, but strictly in general terms an autonomous decision on a city logo is indeed a potential red flag for other issues.
For Mr. Cooper and DCFP, call it old-fashioned or simply common decency – but no need to use – or allow to be posted without moderation (editor) – inappropriate, curse words from the gutter. Shame on you both.
