Letter: Elected officials and courthouse staff should follow mask guidelines
This week, I visited a Dubois County office, where I was required to wear a mask. The Dubois County employees were not. They also did not social distance themselves from me. I believe they should be required to wear a mask also.
I also saw the employees and elected officials out and about around town, talking to various people (not social distancing) and touching door handles without a mask or gloves then return to their office.
I along with other Dubois county citizens been have been social distancing and wearing masks in public places to protect others and ourselves.
We have no idea what or who our elected officials and our county employees have been in contact with. One thing is for sure, they aren’t following the same guidelines as the rest of America.
I want all elected officials and county employees to wear masks. Unless there is a special shot that our elected officials and county officials have taken, they are as susceptible as the rest of us to get COVID-19.

I agree. The number of people without masks outweigh the people who are responsibly wearing them. The very people who make the guidelines aren’t following them, so, the misguided feel they don’t need to follow them either. The only way to save lives is to follow the guidelines set by medical professionals and not listen to or follow by example, anyone who will ignore the evidence and necessary guidelines to stay safe. No one is above this virus.
Our own Government is not setting a good example to the rest of the country on how to safe safe and end or at least slown down this devaststing virus. Is our country divided by moral values vs materialistic ones? Lives vs economic gain?
Sorry, some of the people making the guidelines do follow them, but not all.
Employees at the local Home Depot do not wear masks. What are they thinking?
Not many customers or staff at any store are compliant. Well, maybe half. Even at the Riverwalk. I know some people look at me sideways when I come in wearing gloves, a mask and armed with hand sanitizer and wipes.
Strictly to the point of citizens/customers/visitors being REQUIRED to wear a mask – assuming publicized and posted properly at entrances so there’s no doubt or misunderstanding or misinterpretation – agree that employees there should also be required to wear masks/coverings. “Do as we say AND do.”
I think it should be mandatory that masks or at least face coverings are worn in all retail, government, and open to the public buildings. Our positive cases numbers are going up, people are not following guidelines, and widespread testing is still a pipe dream. What will it take for our leaders to actually “lead”?
Maybe if enough of them contract the virus, they will.
People are doing what they want, do to “NO” leadership! Leadership starts at the top “Federal Government “. I have been taught, that a leader leads from the front, meaning, a leader will never expect or order someone to do something that he is not will to comply with. Like wearing a face cover. If you lead from the front you will “earn” respect. People just don’t have any respect for others. Do you really blame them?
