Letter: Beckman brings years of community dedication and service to county commission

It is reassuring to see Mary Beth Beckman still involved in local government, volunteer activities and organizations.  When voting for County Commissioner District 2, please think about what she brings to the table. 

Her career includes eight years of volunteer service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), so if your interest is protecting and advocating for youth, check that box. She served under Chick Alles, Bill Schmitt and Terry Seitz on the Community Arts Commission. Becky continues to work with church and civic organizations. And if you believe we need affordable housing so people can live and work here, Becky’s experience spanning 16 years in both subsidized and conventional apartment living speaks for itself. Juanita Boehm and Elmer Brames have publicly endorsed her.   

In accepting the President’s Community Excellence Award, Becky said, “We have learned that we are all neighbors — rich or poor, old, young, Democrat, Republican …  people who take care of our neighbors….”  In declaring her candidacy, she stated “…the best interests of all can be achieved when government, business, education, healthcare, public health, social services, spiritual and philanthropic components work together.”   

It has taken years of advocating in both the background and in public office for our community to benefit from projects such as Dove Recovery, improvement in our criminal justice system’s jail, the community corrections work release center, and enhancements in our rehabilitation services.  We rarely find this attitude and willingness to collaborate. 

Vote for Becky Beckman to recognize her experience and leadership.

  1. I believe if there’s any one Candidate to fight for affordable housing in Dubois County, especially in Jasper it has to be Becky.
    She was my apartment manager at one of the low income properties in Jasper. She has seen first hand how important affordable housing is to families.
    Ms. Fischer highlights many more reasons why Becky would make the best County Commisssioner for District 2.
    I’ve never seen a Candidate have the experience working with such a wide range of people.
    In my opinion it shows that Becky cares about all walks of life.
    Becky you have my vote!
