League Stadium to host Community Movie Night

The Huntingburg Foundation Inc. convened leaders on Thursday, July 28 at the Old Town Hall, Huntingburg to find a common solution to the hosting of a public, non-partisan Community Movie Night at League Stadium.

The Rockford Peaches are set to return to League Stadium in celebration of the 20th anniversary since filming “A League of Their Own” with a public screening coming Labor Day weekend.

With both political parties in support of a joint venture, the Huntingburg Chamber of Commerce has joined the Huntingburg Foundation’s effort and will host the free Community Movie Night on Sunday, September 4 at League Stadium for the showing of “A League of Their Own.”

The Foundation will collect community contributions to underwrite the Community Movie Night, with all proceeds supporting the League Stadium Endowment.

“This is quite the occasion to raise awareness about the continued preservation of League Stadium,” said Brad Ward, Foundation Director. “We hope it complements the success Ferdinand has built for such events, which generously provided insights to the logistics involved.”

The Endowment, set to benefit from the Community Movie Night, supports the preservation and enhancements to the stadium.

“The fund goes beyond the general maintenance provided by the Parks Department, ensuring its historic charm and Rockford Peaches character remain alive for generations to come,” said Ward

The Chamber will serve as host organization, providing logistics and assuring successful implementation of the event. Groups interested in participating with the day-of logistics should contact the Chamber office at (812) 683-5699 to get involved.

“We are excited to partner with the Foundation and all those interested in celebrating this film and raising funds for our historic League Stadium,” said Nick Stevens, Chamber Director.

With both political parties pledging support—either financial or volunteerism—the City of Huntingburg has pledged funds along with several private citizens who already made direct contributions in support of Community Movie Night and League Stadium.

“The Foundation is a charitable vehicle designed to bring people together and make things happen,” said Brad Ward, Foundation Director.

“This is a distinct opportunity to rally behind the continued preservation of our League Stadium, and the Community Movie Night brings to life all in the name of good, charitable fun.”

Coming Labor Day Weekend, Sunday, September 4, Jimmie Dugan and his Rockford Peaches will once again breathe life into the preservation of historic League Stadium.

The Huntingburg Foundation’s mission is to give people the power to improve their community and leave a lasting legacy.
