Jimmy V Foundation Classic coming to League Stadium
This Saturday the Third Annual Jimmy V Classic doubleheader will be played at Huntingburg’s League Stadium at noon EDT between Owensboro and Bowling Green, Ky.
With baseball fields around Kentucky closed because of Covid-19, the Owensboro Bombers 19U Baseball team of 16 to 19-year-old players from seven high schools and colleges around the Owensboro area has found it difficult to play baseball. Fortunately, baseball is back and the team’s current record is 6 and 3 coming off a weekend three game sweep of Lyon County in Eddyville, Ky. where the team was able to play at Legion Stadium to support the Jimmy V Foundation.
Last July, the Owensboro Bombers hosted Oldham County, Kentucky, to honor Jimmy V, accepting donations as admission to the game. The team matched a portion of dollars given and players wore special teal camouflage uniforms to recognize prostate cancer patients.
Donations totaled nearly $2,000 to the “Kentuckiana Friends of V” assuring funds will stay in the Louisville Lexington Cancer Research Centers.
This year, there will be a special commemorative presentation in between the double-header along with MLB memorabilia giveaways throughout the day. A minimum donation of at least $5.00 per person will get you into the games “free”.
Give generously and make your tax-deductible checks payable to “Kentuckiana Friends of V”.
