Jazz, Wine and Craft Beer fest Saturday afternoon

First the jazz, then the wine, and finally home brew. That is the order of events that led to the creation of the first Jazz, Wine, and Craft Beer Fest happening in Huntingburg this Saturday afternoon.

Huntingburg Chamber Executive Director Nick Stevens spoke with Kevin Manley of Dubois County Tourism about a music festival. Then Manley attended a Rotary Club event in Jasper and spoke with Jim McFaul about the idea. McFaul being a jazz fan went down that path which led to wine. Craft beer entered since McFaul is also part of the Dubois County Suds Club; a group of craft beer home brewers.

Now we have two jazz groups coming to Huntingburg to perform for free while locals try wine from local wineries and craft beers.

The wine will be coming from French Lick, Best, Monkey Hollow and Blue Heron wineries. Craft beers will be sold for $3.00 a glass or bottle and will feature an Indiana brewery, New Albanian Brewing Company from New Albany withan American Porter, as well as craft beers from across the U.S., including, Redhook IPA, Widmer Dark Saison, Redhook Pilsner, Widmer Hefeweizen, Goose Island Nut Brown Ale.

A new Dubois County nanobrewery will be handing out samples of their own beer. Basket Case Brewing Company is currently in the process of obtaining their brewing permits with the hope of opening in late summer or early fall of 2012. The new company will have its Revolution Ale, Nut Brown, and a Heffe for attendees to try.

Local home brews will be presented by members of the Suds Club who will be having an “in-club” competition. Attendees 21 and over will be able to sample and vote for the “People’s Choice” award though.

The event is a family event with Latin inspired jazz and traditional jazz music and food supplied by the Old School Cafe’. Proceeds from the event will go to the Fourth Street Charitable endowment. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m.
