Jasper police seeking hit-and-run suspect’s identity (Update)

Update: Police reported the suspect has identified herself. Charges will be forwarded to Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.

Original: Jasper Police Department is asking the public for assistance in identifying the woman in the attached image.

According to authorities, the woman in the image struck a parked vehicle at the Memorial Hospital parking lot, 800 W. 9th Street, with a silver Buick 4-door passenger car, possibly 2006-2010 model year, while pulling into a parking spot on Thursday, March 31.

The parked vehicle was a light green 2008 Nissan Altima and was unattended at the time of the incident.

According to police, the suspect exited her vehicle, observed the damageĀ and then left the parking spot to park elsewhere in the lot.

The suspect vehicle may possibly have damage to its front right bumper or front right quarter panel.

The suspect vehicle caused damage to the rear left quarter panel, rear left tire, rear left door, and rear left bumper onĀ the parked vehicle.

The Jasper Police Department is asking the public’s assistance in identifying the driver. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jasper Police Department at 812-482-2255 or leave a message on the anonymous tip line at 812-481-2677 (COPS).

I believe, if not sure, that HIPPA and other patients rights laws are only to protect ID from unauthorized access and release of same to and by the public – not from law enforcement authorities in cases of crime, suspected crime, etc. If I’m wrong then it’s gone way too far politically-correct left, not unlike the i-phone fiasco that slowed down FBI access to potential criminal and terrorist information.
    That said, with today’s HD and digital technology, is this grainy, blurry photo the best that can be had from the hospital’s surveillance cameras? Maybe the hospital ought to invest in better security equipment.
