Jasper Police: Recent vandalism separate from peaceful protest
With the arrest of two individuals responsible for vandalism in the City of Jasper, the Jasper Police Department wants to remind all citizens to express their viewpoints in a respectful and responsible way.
For example, the peaceful protest that occurred last weekend is a positive way to bring awareness to a cause without defacing or damaging someone’s property.
The police department would like to point out that the recent destruction of property and vandalism should in no way reflect a negative image on that peaceful protest that took place this past weekend around the courthouse square.
It’s imperative that we do not judge a group of people as a whole on the unlawful act of vandalism of a small group of people. Similarly, you should not judge all police officers on the actions of one officer that acts improperly.
Please continue to be positive agents for change for your family, friends, neighbors, and community. Let’s continue to express ourselves in a way that encourages change without defacing property or violence.
The City of Jasper and Dubois County are great places to live.
We are striving to make Jasper a community that encourages everyone to express opinions in a positive and peaceful way.
Remember:
-Do what’s right!
-Do your best!
-Treat others like you want to be treated!
Chief Nathan J. Schmitt

Thanks Chief. We proudly stand with your officers
Everyday, you make us proud.
Thank you to our law enforcement for helping keep our community what it is and not letting it become what a small group of people would like for it to be.
We appreciate our police officers here in Jasper. They aren’t biased from anything I’ve ever seen. I guess it’s small areas like this in the “flyover” states that are never recognized. We do not have much if any trouble with racism that I have experienced. I’m sure that most small town areas are the same way. I have only seen racism in bigger cities for the most part. I don’t know what it is but people just seem to naturally self segregate with those areas who have the most in common with themselves whether it be Hispanics, whites, blacks, Asians, or whatever they identify as. Our population is more of a white and Hispanic or Latino ethnicities here but we seem to do well at getting along well together. I haven’t noticed much trouble with people being accepting here and that is a good thing.
Maybe we can lead by example if only we could be noticed by those who want to throw blame around and stereotype everyone one way or another.
