Jasper Library Board begins building process again

The Jasper Public Library Board voted to form a committee to come up with a plan for the library building.

The board held an extended discussion on the building project at Thursday’s meeting. A committee will be formed consisting of two members of the library board, two library staff members and three members of the public. Board members Mark Kunkel and Pam Catt will be on the committee with the remaining five to be announced in a later meeting.

The goal of the committee will be to help determine the next step for the library based on criteria set by the board. The questions of where the library might build or what kind of facility could be built will be addressed.

At Thursday’s meeting, the board discussed the possibility of another referendum to build a new library. The board considered the option to hold a fundraiser with the goal of matching the referendum amount dollar for dollar to fund the project and lessen the tax payer burden.

  1. Maybe the library should work with the school board. If the school board wants to sell 5th st, you have a building they can buy from the school board and it has parking and everything they want. Then the school board can look into expanding Ireland and maybe 10th with all that money… no new buildings built and both sides get a win-win.
