Jasper invites community to Patio Party
Let’ have a Patio Party, in our own backyard.
With the recent announcement of the Downtown Chowdown being postponed to June, the City of Jasper has decided to switch things up a little.
Starting on Wednesday, April 8 through Wednesday, May, 27, the community is encouraged to spend an evening on their own patio, order a meal and favorite beverage from your favorite local restaurant and play family-friendly music and games as part of the Patio Party event.
As a reminder the Patio Party is meant for you to stay in your own yard and not gather with your neighbors. However, you can send a friendly wave and smile to your neighbors. This is also a great opportunity to support our local restaurants with the great meals they offer carry-out style.
There will be a Facebook event set up on the City’s Facebook page, Jasper Gov, where you can share photos and videos of your Patio Party. “We are IN this together, let’s share with all,” said Mayor Vonderheide.
Continue to support our local community by shopping and eating local as these are the businesses that support us and are the heart of our community, the city said in a press release.

These are the words from local sources. “Continue to support our local community by shopping and eating local as these are the businesses that support us and are the heart of our community.”
We have 2 choices, we either follow the executive order given by Govenor Holcomb or we follow local business owners who are more concerned with money than they are with saving lives.
People are the heart of the community not businesses.
Don’t get your concern. What part of this “Patio Party” didn’t you understand – or didn’t you read – ? What part of this or how is it not a way to do both – getting take-out or delivery of an essential (food) AND staying isolated and distancing, etc. – ? Sounds fine/safe to me – or did I miss something – ?
The County Health Department with the support of the County Commissioner’s have asked all businesses to reconsider their decisions to stay open.
My concern isn’t the patio party. My concern is for the employees working. Don’t you understand their lives are at risk.
I understand small businesses are struggling. But families are too. Families are suffering because they have lost loved ones to this deadly disease.
We have to get groceries. That’s what Walmart, IGA, and Holiday Foods is for. We need gas stations and pharmacies. We don’t need restaurants. I choose not to put someone else’s life in danger unnecessarily.
You can do what you want. But don’t be screaming at Dr. Walflert when the COVID-19 numbers go up.
Food establishments have been allowed to remain open all along to feed people…as essential as groceries for the most part I would think…by pick-up or delivery, and this “event” would be no different…not happening just for this occasion, etc. Not everyone can/does either cook or eat at home from groceries…some can’t for various reasons to include skills, abilities/disabilities, other health issues, employment and various work schedules, etc, and they rely on those take-outs and deliveries that are allowed to remain open. Life is risky these days for sure, but it’s not a perfect world.
I believe the statement was just trying to encourage residents to shop locally vs. online (and taking all of the necessary precautions when we do so), and to support local restaurants that are offering take-out/delivery options. I don’t think the message contradicts what we have been told, but it might have helped for the writer to clarify that “shopping locally” means **for essential products and services only** and with all of the social distancing and other directives kept in mind.
