Jasper businesses on 3rd Ave show support of $1,596,000 water/street project
”We’ve got letters from various businesses and industry along that corridor committing to 74 jobs and over $2.5 million in private investment in growth this water improvement and paving project will help,” Lisa Gelhausen Indiana Region 15
The Jasper City Council and the Utility Service Board met in a special session Monday at 1:30 p.m. to approve their portion of expenditures toward the Third Avenue Water Main project.

Both governing bodies voted to approve the required local 50% ($798,000.00) match of the almost $1.6 million dollar cost that it will take to repair the water main from Staat Strasse to Justin Avenue.

Lisa Gehlhausen with Region 15 told the two boards that it would take 30 days for the grant to be processed and an approval or rejection to be obtained for the project.

Gehlhausen also reported that seven businesses came forward to proclaim that they would benefit from the installation of the new main. “We’ve got letters from various businesses and industry along that corridor committing to 74 jobs and over $2.5 million in private investment in growth this water improvement and paving project will help,” she said.

The companies are: Raymond James Investments, Green Thumb Landscaping, Progressive Investment, Springs Valley Bank & Trust, Dubois Equipment, Messmer Mechanical and Vincennes University Jasper.

Gehlhausen says that the action by the seven companies makes the grant approval much more likely since the EDA places a heavy emphasis on this part of the process.

 1. Where is this money coming from? Is this Utility revenue or money from the city revenue, or some mix of both? I assume it is utility revenue since they have such a large surplus in their cash reserves.
