Jasper Board of Public Works meeting
The Jasper Board of Public Works did the following on Tuesday, September 11:
Approved the closure of 33rd Street from Newton Street to Leslie Drive from 7 to 10 a.m. for the parking of motorcycles involved in the funeral of Lcpl. Alec Terwiske at Becher Kluesner North Chapel.
Approved a request from Jason Schmitt for the March of Dimes for permission to use Dave Buehler Plaza and the Riverwalk for the annual MOD Walk for Babies at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 14, pending proof of insurance to be presented in October.
Approved a request from Adrian Engleberth, representing the FreedomMakers, for permission to use the Dave Buehler Plaza and Gazebo for a public event on Sep. 28. The Rally for Liberty will occur from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and all candidates for political office are invited to speak for 5 minutes regardless of party.
Approved a request from D.C. Multisport to use Dave Buehler Plaza and the Riverwalk for an event to recognize National Women’s Health and Fitness Day on September 26 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will include a 2 to 3 mile run/walk and pilates at the plaza on the Riverwalk. No charge for the event.
Jasper Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang announced the Second Annual Heartland Half Marathon and 5K will be held on September 1 next year. The Route will stay the same but the start time will be 7:30 a.m. He told the board the group feels the event will continue to grow.

City Engineer Chad Hurm informed the board of the rebid on the South Newton storm water project for the October meeting. The bids are to repair 250 feet of 60 inch diameter pipe that has collapsed south of Second Street near Veterans Memorial Bridge.
Approved the Street Department to remove trees at 115 East Fourth Street and 415 East Seventh Street.
The Street Department is milling and repaving Sixth Street from the city square to Mill Street, Seventh Street from Newton to Mill, and Fifth Street from Newton to Mill.
