Jasper Police Chief Michael Bennett informed the Jasper Board of Public works that Detective Lisa Miller, a 21-year veteran of the department, will retire at the end of October.

Miller presented a letter of resignation to Chief Bennett on Monday. He told the board she had recently interviewed and received an offer of employment working with a district attorney’s office in Western Colorado as an investigator. Miller and her husband Ron, an Indiana Conservation Officer, would like to retire to Colorado as both are outdoor enthusiasts.

Bennett told the board Officer Rick Chambers would be shadowing Miller until her last day to transition her current caseload. Chambers will fill in the position until an official replacement is designated. Chambers is a 25-plus-year veteran of the department and  Bennett is comfortable the transition will go smoothly.

Miller stated in her letter that she was grateful to the past and present members of the Jasper Police Department for providing her with a “camaraderie and friendship that has spanned my 21 plus year career as and employee of the Jasper Police Department.”

Miller further stated the police department has been left in very capable hands with Mayor Seitz’ decision to place Bennett as its head when he took office in January.
